The metal products industry refers to the sector that uses metals as the primary raw material and, through a series of processing techniques and technological methods—including machining, forming, and treatment—manufactures a wide range of metal products. As an important component of China’s manufacturing sector, the metal products industry serves as a foundational materials industry for national economic development. Its products are classified as industrial consumer goods and are extensively used across various sectors of the national economy and the defense-industrial complex, including construction, transportation, automotive, railway, water conservancy, energy, power, machinery, and furniture.

According to the National Industrial Classification Standards, the metal products industry encompasses the manufacture of structural metal products; metal tools; containers and metal packaging vessels; metal wire ropes and related products; metal products for construction and safety applications; metal surface treatment and heat-treatment processes; enamelware; metal household articles; and casting and other metal products.
